Rainy morning in Boston then off to Phoenix (April 20)

We had planned to sleep, or at least stay in bed late, given a long day ahead of us inclusive of the switch to Pacific Daylight Time. At 7:23, I was done waiting and got up... to find out it was 9:23.

Last evening, the hotel had advised guests that there would be a major power outage between 1:00-5:00 AM so that some system upgrades could be performed. They provided each room with a flashlight and chemical luminous stick along with assurance that various safety measures were in place and, potentially important, that the plumbing would still work.

After I went to bed about 11 PM, it occurred to me that the power outage might include the room clock if it did not have battery backup. Not wanting to disturb Pam, and knowing exactly where it was, in the dark got a wrist watch out my toiletries kit, my smart watch needing to be recharged. I checked to make sure the illumination button worked, then went to bed and to sleep. Oops.

Had I looked at the time on the watch, I would have seen that it was still set for our last trip to Texas, that being before the shift to daylight savings time, and so was two hours behind current Boston time. To quote Snidely Whiplash, "Curses, foiled again!" (If the name and the quote sound familiar but you just can't place them, presuming that you are old enough to do so, think back to Dudley Do-right cartoons.)

Breakfast became brunch. It being a rainy morning, we made it a leisurely one, enjoying Eggs Benedict at a window table looking out over Boston Harbor. During the course of it, we decided that rather than call it brunch, we would revert to calling it breakfast, which along with our late sleep-in put us on Phoenix time already. And just like that, a stupid mistake became an excellent plan.
The picture on the right was taken on the ninth floor where the reflection
of a glass cover at the top of the dome inside the arch enabled a 180-degree shot.
The rain having let up for a few minutes, we walked around for a few minutes outside the hotel before returning to our room to close our bags and await departure time for the airport.
View from our room.
Having been cautioned by the airline to allow some extra time due to possible Easter holiday travel congestion, we breezed into the airport, baggage check-in and TSA. We settled into an AC-challenge lounge to await our flight.

The JetBlue flight to Phoenix was uneventful. Having booked a window and aisle seat, then kept our fingers crossed, we were rewarded (with or without the finger crossing) by having no one in the middle seat.  We enjoyed the extra room.
After collecting our bags, we stepped out into the warm embrace of a Phoenix evening. It was wonderful after a long winter at home.

The cab driver covered the distance from the airport to hotel in admirable time, injecting us with only modest fear of his technique for doing so. When we got to the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort about 9:00 p.m., we dropped the bags in our room and headed out to a light dinner. Back in the room, we did some basic unpacking, then agreeing that with the 3-hour time change the day had been long enough, we headed to bed.
